A gaming remote. Not just a housing — a precision assembly.

This project required a partner capable of managing the entire product development journey — not just tooling. A gaming remote controller is a precision assembly: multiple moulded parts that must fit together with exact gap and flush, ergonomic surfaces that must feel right in hand, and an A-surface finish that the customer sees on every single unit. The tolerance for failure is zero.

Two risks that could destroy the launch — identified before tooling began.

Hongyi JIG identified the two critical risks at the design stage — before any steel was committed. First: assembly warpage. Uneven shrinkage in the moulded parts could cause assembly mismatch, poor gap and flush, and fitment failures. Second: stress marks. Residual moulding stress could lead to visible marks on the A-surface, affecting cosmetic quality on every unit produced. Both risks were documented, evaluated, and controlled before tooling began.

Assembly Warpage
Uneven shrinkage during moulding causes assembly mismatch, poor gap and flush, and fitment issues between parts.
Optimised rib design during DFA/DFM review. Validated through MoldFlow Analysis — volumetric shrinkage and warpage simulation — before steel release.
Stress Mark Risk
Residual moulding stress leads to visible stress marks on the A-surface, affecting cosmetic quality on customer-facing surfaces.
Risk evaluated through MoldFlow Analysis. Gate location, mould temperature, and moulding parameter optimisation planned before tooling began.
What risk governance changed at the tooling stage
Without governance — Warpage and stress mark risks discovered after tooling. Expensive rework, delayed launch, compromised cosmetic quality.

DFM, DFA, and MoldFlow — before steel was cut.

Every governance decision was made before tooling began. Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly reviews validated the part geometry and assembly feasibility. MoldFlow Analysis confirmed fill patterns, shrinkage behaviour, warpage prediction, and gate location — giving the team certainty that what was designed would produce correctly. This is the difference between governed product development and tooling by assumption.

A gaming remote is held in the player's hands every session. Every gap, every flush, every surface — the customer feels it. We governed those risks before the mould was built — not after.

Tooling built on a validated, frozen design. Ready for commercialisation.

With risks controlled and design validated, tooling proceeded with confidence. Proactive risk identification and control at every critical stage reduced rework and ensured a predictable transition from development to mass production. Enhanced tooling readiness, minimised tool rework, and controlled assembly warpage and stress mark risks — delivered as programme outcomes, not afterthoughts. Governance status at completion: Commercialisation Ready.
